The challenge: the growing pains of success
EngineRoom’s managers knew they needed something purpose-built. The business had ballooned to thirty employees across multiple departments, each with unique working styles that needed to be catered to. Strategists needed wide spaces to collaborate and ideate; developers needed reliable tech hubs to work their digital alchemy; and creatives needed productive nooks to sequester away in.
Figuring out they needed a custom fitout wasn’t the challenge — finding a project partner who could do it was. Fortunately for EngineRoom, it wasn’t a problem for long.
EngineRoom’s finished fitout
Before we get into the process, let’s jump ahead to the end: here’s what the finished digital marketing office fitoout looks like.

Defining EngineRoom’s challenge
At our first consultation, we dug into their goals and ambitions as well as the apprehensions they had about the process. Here’s what they needed:
- A builder with a genuine understanding of each department’s specific needs.
- A solution to navigate the complexities of a newly launched hybrid work environment.
- An office that would foster collaboration, productivity and professional pride.
Locking in a plan of action
EngineRoom were moving into a new space, so we had a canvas to work with. Our goal was to fitout their new office to maximise the use of space and align it to their needs. Here’s what we planned:
- Tech suites, quiet rooms and multi-purpose boardrooms | We designed multiple new soundproof, spacious rooms with cutting-edge technology suitable for each department.
- Greenery galore | Our qualitative interviews with EngineRoom’s staff illuminated a consistent desire for soothing, air-freshening indoor plants. We feel the same way.
- Custom cafeteria | You can’t be at your best on an empty stomach. We installed a custom-designed, fully stocked cafeteria for staff to eat and relax.
Putting our plans into practice
We worked closely with EngineRoom’s leadership and staff to develop their final fitout design. The process included:
- Spatial planning and concepting | We developed detailed 3D designs so ideas could be pitched, tested, reviewed and approved before we committed to putting hammer to nail.
- Acoustic engineering | We conducted thorough engineering tests to ensure the desired sound dampening and privacy were maintained across working and breakout areas.
- Material and finish selection | Once the floorplan was finalised, we selected colours, materials and fittings that aligned with EngineRoom’s brand and budget.
Outcome
Bringing it all together
The final build required a defit and a complete 780m2 office fitout, encompassing:
- 60 workstations
- 4 breakout areas
- 4 back-of-house meeting rooms
- 3 quiet rooms
- 2 client meeting rooms
- Reception area
- Custom cafe and kitchen
And we delivered all of it in just ten weeks.
Our accreditations and partnerships
"Our office fitout by Sphere Projects was a game-changer. Their use of 3D visualization tools instead of traditional 2D floorplans allowed us to see and fine-tune our space before construction. This innovative approach greatly impressed us and ensured a perfect final result."
